More and more people think celebrities are public property. Famous singers, actors, football players etc. find their images and names are being used on all kinds of products such as shirts, stickers and Internet sites. This may lead to an unwanted image and loss in revenue due to unfair competition by third parties using their names and images on their own products.

Many famous dutch artists, singers, actors, etc. have their own websites which are organized by Glamago. Glamago provides the official sites of these celebrities, but there are also many unofficial sites. Some of them are made by fans, but others are made by entrepeneurs that want to make some easy money.

These unauthorized illegal sites offer mostly pornographical material, merchandise, or are just diverting traffic and making money by linking to other sites. On most of these sites, manipulated and uncompromising pictures are shown that damage the artists images and infringe on their personal and portrait rights.

Pretection conducted an Internet Quick Scan for Glamago and found out that a lot of the official websites of the artists represented by Glamago are not as high ranked as the sites offering pornographical material of the artists. In America these kind of infringements are taken very seriously and have been dealt with in the past (eg Pamela Anderson tape).

The rapport Pretection made of the Quick Scan for Glamago concluded that many infringements are being made on the rights of it's Artists. These include domain name, copyright, portrait right and personal right infringements on the rights of various artists. Pretection can help prevent and solve these problems by continiously monitoring the Internet for these infringements and help with internediation in retrieving some of the domain names. This will result in a better image for the artists and a higher ranking of the official websites.
